The Seattle Torrent battled back at home to find their first victory back from the Olympic break, battling through injuries.
Following the USA’s gold medal run Seattle Captain Hilary Knight revealed that she played through a torn MCL, no timeline has been provided for her return. Adding to Seattle’s injuries is Hannah Bilka who has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an upper-body injury sustained at the Olympics, no further details about the injury have been announced.
Game Recap: Seattle Torrent vs Boston Fleet
The Seattle Torrent returned to Climate Pledge Arena in front of another big crowd. The Torrent got right to work before Boston found their chances, but it would be a while longer before Theresa Schafzahl opened the scoring, giving the Fleet the lead. With the time counting down in the first Alex Carpenter found the equalizer for the Torrent.
In the second it was Susanna Tapani with the lone goal, giving Boston the go-ahead goal as the Torrent looked to battle back in front of the home crowd.
And the third period delivered exactly that with Mikyla Grant-Mantis finding the equalizer short-handed. Adding to the excitement was Danielle Serdachny with the game-winning goal as the arena erupted.
PWHL Success on the West Coast
Despite Seattle and Vancouver sitting at the bottom of the league the West Coast has continued to show up averaging over 11,000 fans a game. Since the Olympics Seattle’s numbers have only risen, breaking the USA attendance record in their first game back with 17,335 fans in attendance with another 13,350 last night. Well in Vancouver their first game back saw 13,264 fans in attendance. With the success on the West Coast continuing to shine, expansion decisions still loom in the background, with many assuming the time gap between Minnesota and the West Coast will be closed. Well nothing has been confirmed yet, Denver and Edmonton seem to be popular options, with successful tour stops, and hometown players.
