Fleet Sail Back Into First

After a thrilling start to their West Coast trip, the Boston Fleet sailed back into the top spot.

The Fleet started the season on a 5-game win streak for the best-ever start in the PWHL, rapidly taking over the top position which they held until March 1st after the Victoire came back from the Olympic break strong, taking over the number one spot. Since the Victoire cracked the top of the standings the two teams have gone back and forth flipping and out of the top spot. Right now the Fleet have a 2-point lead, with another game tonight as they take on the Seattle Torrent. They will look to set themselves further ahead before heading to Montreal.

Tuesday Night Recap: Boston Fleet at Vancouver Goldeneyes

In their first trip to the Pacific Coliseum, the Fleet got to work. The game got off to a physical start that carried throughout the night in the low-scoring affair. Heading into the third period the game was still scoreless with both Aerin Frankel and Kristen Campbell holding it down in net.

It was Boston’s first round pick, Haley Winn kicking off the scoring early in the third to put the Fleet on the board. Vancouver continued to fight back as the time counted down. With under four minutes to go in the third period, Hannah Miller found the equalizer, sending the game to over-time.

In a very short-lived overtime it was Shay Maloney who was the hero scoring just 40 seconds in on the first shot of the frame with her third of the season to extend the Fleet’s win streak to 6.

Players to Watch Tonight: Boston Fleet at Seattle Torrent

The player to watch for Boston is Captain Megan Keller, who has continued to grow her two-way play this season alongside linemate Haley Winn. Keller’s biggest goal came on the biggest stage, as she scored the golden goal for the USA in overtime. Since returning to the PWHL the Captain has remained scoreless with only one assist, as she settles back in with the Fleet expect to see her offensive abilities break through.

On the other side the player to watch is Danielle Serdachny who has had a slow start to her PWHL career. The Alberta native finished her college career with Colgate as the programs all-time leading scorer helping lead the Raiders to four straight ECAC titles. With key players out of the lineup for the Torrent, expect to see her take on a bigger role as she looks to get her offense rolling.
