The Toronto Sceptres got a steal at the draft as Kirsten Simms fell to number 8. Simms is on a championship run alongside Wisconsin teammates Laila Edwards and Caroline Harvey who in the last year have won the IIHF Women’s Worlds, Rivalry Series, Olympic Gold, and back-to-back NCAA titles. 

Over the course of her career with the Wisconsin Badgers, the Michigan native played 152 games, scoring 100 goals, 19 of which were game-winners, along with 138 assists. Her playmaking ability makes her a dangerous force on the ice, which is exactly what the Toronto Sceptres needed as they rebuild their team heading into next season. 

This past season, the Sceptres struggled on offence, ranking last in goals for in the league. Despite their struggles finding the back of the net, most of their matches stayed close, with a strong backend. Bringing in an incredible playmaker and champion like Simms, will hopefully give the Sceptres the offensive spark they’ve been needing as they head into Season 4.
