Chicago’s first game of the 2025-26 season drew in 7238 fans, as the Minnesota Frost took on the Ottawa Charge. This was a homecoming game for Frost Captain Kendall Coyne-Schofield, as well as Taylor House and Savannah Harmon from the Charge.
The Minnesota Frost was dominating the game before Dominique Petrie drew a hooking penalty, giving Ottawa a player advantage. With just 9 seconds left in the power-play, Ronja Savolainen capitalized, giving the Charge the first lead of the game. The Frost continued to dominate, but Philips wasn’t letting up, blocking all 6 shots in the first period.
In the second period, Minnesota continued their dominance with 16 shots in the first half of the period. The Frost’s first breakthrough came from Britta Curl-Salemme off a backwards pass from Kelly Pannek. From there, the Frost continued their offensive play, but gave Ottawa two power plays. Ottawa Captain, Brianne Jenner, capitalized on the second, with a top-shelf goal, taking back the lead. Gwenyth Philips continued to be the hero for Ottawa, blocking 21 of the Frost’s 22 shots in the second period.
Two minutes into the third period, Brooke Hobson, from the Ottawa Charge, was called for a cross-check, giving Minnesota the power-play. Mae Batherson was able to capitalize on the advantage, scoring her first PWHL goal. From there, the game continued back-and-forth, with neither team being able to finish, the game headed to overtime.
Much like the rest of the game, the Frost dominated on puck possession, but Sarah Wozniewicz found an open path from the top of the face-off circle, scoring the game-winner, with her first PWHL goal
Up next, the Charge head to Toronto where they look to continue their momentum in a much-needed win. As they Charge in hot, the Sceptres look to do the same, bringing their momentum from New York back home. The Minnesota Frost return to action on December 27th for their second stop on the Takeover Tour as they head to Edmonton to take on the Vancouver Goldeneyes, it will be the teams' first meeting, and with several former members of the Frost playing for the Goldeneyes, it promises to be an intense matchup.
