Sceptres Bounce Back in New York

ree

The Sceptres put pressure on Kayle Osbourne early, maintaining the offensive zone. Toronto continued to dominate most of the offensive play through their penalty kill, holding the Sirens to only one shot. It was Jesse Compher who would strike first after Maggie Connors caused a turnover in the neutral zone. Allie Munroe then picked up the puck and fired the initial shot before Compher got a hold of the rebound, giving Toronto the first lead of the game.

After the Toronto goal, the Sirens stepped up their offensive game, firing off six shots before Kristýna Kaltounková picked up the puck in the neutral zone. She then passed the puck to Sarah Fillier, who fired the initial shot before Kaltounková dropped in the net front to score the rebound, tying the score heading into the second period.

The Sceptres wasted no time in the second period, firing off 2 shots in the first 30 seconds. The teams faced off in Toronto's offensive zone, with Blayre Turnbull winning the faceoff. Jesse Compher pulled the puck further back, which Turnbull collected and capitalized on, taking back the lead for Toronto. Minutes later, Emma Maltais took an interference penalty, giving the Sirens a power play. Just over 30 seconds into the power play, Kristýna Kaltounková capitalized on the player advantage, tipping in the shot from Casey O’Brien, netting her second of the game and her first multi-goal game in the league.

Emma Maltais came out of the box fired up and found an answer, getting a lucky bounce on the shot, to get past Kayle Osbourne. The rest of the second period continued with back-and-forth play, including penalties on both sides, including a Toronto penalty with just 15 seconds left in the period, giving the Sirens a player advantage entering the third period.

The third period saw New York dominate on offence, but Toronto wasn’t letting anything through. With two minutes left, the Sirens pulled Osbourne, hoping to spark something on offence, but Jesse Compher brought it end to end, getting the empty net goal, giving Toronto a 2 goal lead with a minute and a half remaining. But New York wasn’t going down without a fight, with Taylor Girard taking three shots back-to-back, as Elaine Chuli tried to lock up the rebound on the second shot, a smart poke by Madi Wheeler left the puck loose in front of the net for Girard, making it a one-goal game. However, with Toronto's back end locked down, they pulled away with the 4-3 win, bringing them up to third in the standings, only 1 point back from Montreal.

The Toronto Sceptres head home for one more game before the Christmas break, taking on the Ottawa Charge. In their last meeting, the Sceptres pulled away with a 3-1 win. They look to keep their momentum going into the holidays. As the New York Sirens look to collect and come back strong, when they return on December 28th for their first stop of the Takeover Tour in Dallas, as they take on the Seattle Torrent.
