The Boston Fleet has been dominating the league, making history with the best start to a PWHL season, going 5-0, including 3 shutouts. But the Minnesota Frost found a way to break through Boston's back end.
The scoring opened up just under 7 minutes into the game when Kendall Coyne-Schofield got a hold of the rebound from Kendall Cooper’s shot, to give Minnesota an early lead. With just over 7 minutes remaining in the first period, Dominique Petrie doubled the Frost’s lead, tipping in the shot from Lee Stecklein.
Minnesota entered the second period with a 2-0 lead, but didn’t waste any time lighting the lamp, as Denisa Křížová went on a breakaway with Britta Curl-Salemme following, getting the rebound from Křížová’s shot, as Aaerin Frankel was trying to find the puck.
With under 4 minutes remaining in the second, Alina Müller got a nice shot off for the Fleet, but Nicole Hensley dived to make the save. A minute later, Boston got another promising opportunity with a shot from Riley Brengman, but Hensley got the tip off her glove, forcing the puck over the net, keeping Minnesota with a 3-0 lead heading into the third.
With just over 9 minutes in the third period, Olivia Mobley broke through with a shot in front for her first PWHL goal to get the Fleet on the board. Just 24 seconds later, Olivia Mobley wrapped around the Frost’s net and passed to Riley Brengman, who fired the shot right away to make it a one-goal game.
The Fleet went on to dominate the puck control, getting several shots off in the offensive zone, with no luck breaking through. So, with just over 2 minutes remaining, the Fleet pulled Aerin Frankel to get something going on offence, but it would be the Frost that capitalized, scoring two empty netters, to take down the undefeated Boston Fleet 5-3.
The Minnesota Frost are back in action Sunday, December 21st, on their first stop on the PWHL Takeover Tour as they head to Chicago to take on the Ottawa Charge. This is a homecoming game for Frost Captain Kendall Coyne-Schofield, as well as Taylor House and Savannah Harmon from the Charge.
The Frost look to carry this momentum into the matchup while Ottawa looks to bounce back from a four-game losing streak. The last time the two teams met, the Frost came out on top with a 5-1 win in Ottawa. Will the Charge finally break through? Or will the Frost continue their momentum and take down Ottawa once again? Only one way to find out, tune in Sunday, December 21st.
