The Vancouver crew showed up and showed out to keep the Goldeneyes undefeated at home.
Vancouver put the pressure on early, firing off two shots in the first thirty seconds. The score opened with Richmond native Katie Chan scoring her first PWHL goal off a pass from North Vancouver native Hannah Miller. The period continued with Vancouver putting the pressure on with 12 shots, the Charge would fire off 7 shots to end the first period.
Vancouver entered the second period with a 1-0 lead. After making a break in the neutral zone, Surrey native, Jenn Gardiner, rushed the net with a farside shot to double the Goldeneyes' lead, on what would ultimately become the game winner.
With slightly less than six minutes left in the third period, Anna Shokina got the Charge on the board, scoring her first PWHL goal, assisted by Peyton Hemp and Mannon McMahon. With a minute and a half left in the third period, Ottawa pulled Philips, trying to spark another goal to tie the game, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Goldeneyes' back end.
In net, Kristen Campbell held off 33 shots, keeping the Goldeneyes in the game. On the other end, Gwyneth Philips held off 27 shots to keep the Charge in contention.
With the win, Vancouver moved from 6th to 2nd in the standings, only under the undefeated Boston Fleet. Vancouver has one more home game against the Montreal Victoire on December 20th, before heading to Edmonton on December 27th, when they take on the Minnesota Frost for their first stop on the Takeover Tour.
Well, the Ottawa Charge were left at the bottom of the standings. They head to Seattle tonight, looking to bounce back before heading to Chicago for their first Takeover Tour stop in Chicago on December 21st when they take on the Minnesota Frost.
