Frost Keep Good Vibes Rolling

The Minnesota Frost kept the good vibes rolling as they headed home for their first game back at Grand Casino Arena since the Olympic break.

Before the game the Minnesota Frost welcomed back Brooke Bryant in a mini-ring ceremony, celebrating last year’s championship. Bryant was a part of the back-to-back championship group with Minnesota before joining Seattle’s camp as a free agent, later signing with the Torrent.

Friday Night Recap: Minnesota Frost vs Seattle Torrent

The Minnesota Frost started the night with a celebration for their Olympians, six of which returned with gold medals. Their welcome home was celebrated with their biggest crowd this season with over 11,000 fans in attendance. And the Frost wasted no time keeping the celebration going with Peyton Anderson scoring her first PWHL goal just two and a half minutes into the first. The Frost continued to own the period with Maddie Rooney facing only 6 shots.

Rounding out the first period was a heads up play from rookie Abby Hustler who held her positioning as Grace Zumwinkle bounced the puck off Hustler's blade. While some fans online have been debating if it was a good call due to it going off her skate, since she continued as she was with no kicking motion the call was good showcasing Hustler’s hockey IQ on the big heads up play to double Minnesota’s lead heading into the second period.

The second period continued on that same note with the Frost outshooting the Torrent 11-5 as they continued to hold and regain possession. Late in the second it was Klára Hymlárová adding to the Frosts lead off a backwards pass from Britta Curl-Salemme to find a 3-0 lead heading into the third.

In the third Seattle found their footing outshooting the Frost 18-8 as they looked to make a comeback. Striking for Seattle was Lexie Adzija on the power-play after finding the rebound from Danielle Serdachny’s shot as Rooney looked to get back in position. With no other luck the Torrent pulled their goalie in a last effort to comeback but it would be the Frost who capitalized with Taylor Heise finding the back of the empty net to solidify the Frosts 4-1 win.

Update on Captain Kendall Coyne-Schofield

The Frost remained without Captain Kendall Coyne-Schofield who sustained an upper-body injury during the Olympics. Coyne-Schofield was eligible to be activated as of March 13th from the LTIR but no moves were made, she is now listed as week-to-week as she nears her return. Many are speculating that she will return to the Frost lineup for her bobblehead night, which is scheduled for March 18th as they take on the Ottawa Charge.

Next Stop: Denver

Up next, the Frost return to Denver on their final stop of the Takeover Tour. This season the Frost have taken over in Chicago and Edmonton, both of which were decided in overtime. Last season when the Frost took over in Denver they walked away with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Victoire, backstopped by Colorado native Nicole Hensley. The game also marks Peyton Anderson’s home-coming, fresh off her first PWHL goal.

The Frost will take on the New York Sirens for the third time this season. So far the teams have split their matchups each with a win at home. With the standings continuing to tighten and change both teams are looking to bring home 3 points as they hunt for a playoff berth.

Tune in Sunday at 4 PM (EST) to catch the action.
