Canadian skier Naomi Urness got her 1st FIS World Cup win in the women’s big air competition. On her first run, she scored 83.25, followed by 73 in the second, totalling 156.25 points. As the third round continued, no one passed Urness. This is the 21-year-old's third podium of the 2025/26 season, coming in second at Secret Garden, and third in Beijing, before heading to Steamboat Springs to capture her first win, in just her 5th World Cup start.
With the win, Urness takes over the top spot on the Big Air World Cup standings and the Freeski Overall standings. Talking about the win, she said, “Honestly, I have no words. Like it’s been an incredible 4 weeks. Never expected this. And to finish strong and on top, which just means the world.” Later adding, “I was out here to like prove to myself that i could compete on the World Cups and I’m just happy that my skiing is talking for itself.”
The Mont-Tremblant native made her first World Cup appearance on February 22nd this year in Stoneham, finishing 13th overall in the Freeski Slopestyle event. Prior to that, she made several appearances in the Nor-Am Cup across the Freeski Big Air and Freeski Slopestyle events. She is looking to make her Olympic debut in the Milan-Cortina Games.
