Sceptres Find Much Needed Win

The Toronto Sceptres found a much needed win in Minnesota as they continue to fight for the fourth and final playoff spot alongside the Ottawa Charge and New York Sirens.

Toronto headed to Minnesota on a mission, as they looked to overtake the Charge who jumped ahead after a shutout win in Toronto. Coming off back-to-back losses the Sceptres found their fire on offence as Raygan Kirk continued to hold it down between the pipes.

Kicking off the scoring was Savannah Harmon off the draw of the power-play, with a quick snap back from Emma Maltais for Harmon firing from the slot for her second goal of the season giving the Sceptres the fast start they were looking for.

From there it was battle of the goaltenders with Raygan Kirk and Maddie Rooney locking it down on the backend as both sides continued to push. The relief for Toronto came on a power-play late in the third as Blayre Turnbull cut in front of net, before Daryl Watts cleaned up to double the Sceptres lead with her 10th of the season. Down two the Frost pulled their goalie looking to spark something up front, but the Sceptres held the Frost to one opportunity that was denied by Kirk finding her third shutout of the season as the playoff race continues to amp up.

Up next the Sceptres head home to take on the New York Sirens who are searching for their first-ever playoff berth after falling to the bottom of the standings the first two years. While the Sceptres look to lock in their third-straight, as they seek first round redemption after falling to Minnesota in the opening round the first two years.

The Sceptres then wrap up their season in Ottawa as they take on the Charge, in what might be the deciding game, depending how the week plays out. With just 5 days left of the regular season there’s lots of action still to come as the race counts down.
