After eliminating Seattle earlier this week, the Torrent repaid the favor, as the Goldeneyes came back late in the third, to send it to overtime.
Heading into the match the Vancouver Goldeneyes needed a regulation win to stay in the playoff race. Well the Seattle Torrent were already eliminated and looking to earn points towards the Gold Plan, on their hunt for the number one pick in this year's draft.
The game saw Carly Jackson’s first start with the Seattle Torrent in net, something fans have been awaiting since the beginning of the season and what a performance it was, holding off a strong Vancouver offence, shutting them out of the first period, and saving 36 of 42 shots.
While for the Goldeneyes it was Jenn Gardiner making all the noise, finding 4 goals including the overtime winner, becoming the first PWHL player to score 4 goals in a single game. The Surrey native has continued to make an impact with her hometown team, whether she’s setting up plays or teaching the next generation.
Through the struggles this season, we’ve seen Vancouver changing up lines and the latest set up seems to have worked, bringing out the best of the Goldeneyes offence, showcasing what they can do and the threat they’ll be next year.
Up next the Vancouver Goldeneyes host the Montreal Victoire as they look to start earning points towards the Gold Plan. With the Victoire already locked in, with a lead on the Fleet, Montreal may be resting starting goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens, but their backup is just as strong in Sandra Abstreiter who in 4 starts this season, has found 3 wins, including a shutout in Ottawa.
While the Seattle Torrent host the Minnesota Frost as they look to get their first win against the back-to-back champs falling in all three of their matchups so far, as they look to jump ahead in the Gold Plan, already with a 1 point advantage over the Vancouver Goldeneyes.
