Goldeneyes Continue the Hunt

With a double-elimination on the line the Vancouver Goldeneyes rose to the occasion with a big 4-1 win over the Seattle Torrent, officially eliminating their West Coast rivals. 

It didn’t take long for the scoring to open as Claire Thompson fired from the blueline, finding Nurse in front for the tip giving the Goldeneyes the early lead, which they carried into the second. 

In the second Hannah Miller what would ultimately become the game-winning goal after a centering pass from Jenn Gardiner. Following it up with the insurance goal was Anna Meixner off the feed from Melissa Channell-Watkins. Just over 30 seconds later it was Goldeneyes rookie defender, Madison Samoskevich who was moved to forward for the match, finding her first in the PWHL on the rush for a moment that will last a lifetime. “I’m so happy that I got to do it here in this rink, in front of this fanbase,” Somoskevich said, adding “It’s just unforgettable and something that I’ll never forget.”

After a 4-0 deficit the Seattle Torrent decided to make a change in net leading to the debut of Carly Jackson for the Torrent, who saved all 9 shots from the Goldeneyes, after coming in midway through the second period. 

Finding Seattle’s first goal of the night was Mikyla Grant-Mentis midway through the third, but it was too little too late, as Emerance Maschmeyer held off the Torrent’s offensive efforts. 

With the regulation win, the Goldeneyes kept their playoff dreams alive while officially eliminating the Torrent activating the Gold Plan, to learn more about how it works READ HERE. The Goldeneyes still face an uphill battle six points out of the final playoff spot. To stay alive the team needs to continue stacking wins, while hoping other competitors start falling.
