PWHL Weekend Preview Feb 28-Mar 1

The PWHL is alive and well this weekend as your favorite teams return from the Olympic break. Here’s your weekend preview:

Boston Fleet at Ottawa Charge

In their matchups earlier this season the Ottawa Charge are 2-0 against the Boston Fleet and will look to continue that trend in their first game back from the Olympic break. Entering the break the Fleet were on a three-game win streak. The Fleet have remained at the top of the standings all season and will look to hold onto their number 1 spot, as other teams close in. Well the Charge entered the break with a big win at home, they are looking to start the next part of the season the same way as they make a push for a playoff position.

For the Charge the player to watch is Michela Cava, who was traded from Vancouver alongside Emma Greco and Brooke McQuigge just before the Olympic break. In her first two PWHL seasons with Minnesota Cava had 21 goals, well this season she only has 1. With the move to Ottawa expect to see her offensive spark come to life, as she’s settled in over the Olympic break.

For the Fleet the player to watch is rookie Abby Newhook. So far this season Newhook has 4 goals, the second most on the team behind Captain Megan Keller. Heading into the Olympic break Newhook was on a two-game point streak. This season Newhook has been a key piece in Fleet lineup, expect her to play a big part as the Fleet look to stay on top of the standings.

Minnesota Frost at Montreal Victoire

In their matchups earlier this season the Montreal Victoire are 2-0 against the Minnesota Frost. Entering the Olympic break the Frost were on a two-game win streak, with six gold medalists in the lineup the Frost are hoping to continue their momentum from earlier this season and the USA’s undefeated Olympic run. Well the Victoire have already returned playing Thursday night in New York where they pulled out a big 4-1 victory.

For the Frost the player to watch is rookie Abby Hustler. So far in her rookie campaign she has 2 goals and 6 assists, heading into the Olympic break Hustler was on a two-game point streak. Returning from the break she looks to pick up where she left off and continue her offensive spark.

For the Victoire the player to watch is Skylar Irving who kicked things off for Montreal in their first game back with her first PWHL goal. In her rookie season she now has one goal and three assists but with big players like Marie-Philip Poulin possibly remaining out of the lineup, the Victoires depth is going to play a big part as they look to stay near the top of the standings.

Toronto Sceptres at Vancouver Goldeneyes

In their matchups earlier this season the Toronto Sceptres and Vancouver Goldeneyes have split the games, winning one a piece. Both the Sceptres and Goldeneyes entered the Olympic break off a loss, both sides are looking to start back up on a win as they push for a playoff position.

For the Goldeneyes the player to watch is Claire Thompson who is coming off a historic Olympic performance becoming the all-time Olympic scoring defender, with 17 points. This season with the Goldeneyes Thompson has been the leader alongside D-partner Sophie Jaques. The blue line duo continues to be the spark for the Goldeneyes, look to them to be the difference makers as Vancouver makes a push to climb the standings.

For the Sceptres the player to watch is Jesse Compher. So far this season Compher has 4 goals, the second most on the team behind Daryl Watts. Compher has been with Toronto since the league started and since then she has continued to be a spark on offense. As the Sceptres look to move past their scoring troubles from the first part of the season look to Compher to set up plays and help lead the Sceptres comeback.
