Ontario Tech Ridgebacks Storm In

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks are taking the OUA by storm after winning the play-in game against the Nipissing Lakers the Ridgebacks advanced to the Quarterfinals. Wiping away their regular season struggles, in their first game of the Quarterfinal round, the Ridgebacks took a big 4-2 win over the Queen’s Gaels.

Starting off the game was Jada Wood from the Gaels, leading the charge less than a minute in to take the lead. The Gaels held on to the one-goal lead til late in the third when Julia Jackson found the tying goal for the Ridgebacks. The Gaels took a late penalty following the goal, to give the Ridgebacks a power-play entering the second period. The Ridgebacks wasted no time on the man advantage with Mackenna Krulicki finding the back of the net less than a minute in.

In an eager attempt to fight back the Gaels took another penalty, putting the Ridgebacks back on the power-play, where they capitalized again this time coming from Jordanna Connors, giving the Ridgebacks a 3-1 lead heading into the third.

In the third, both teams continued to battle it out, with the Ridgebacks adding to their lead midway through the period courtesy of Zoe Wilson. In a last effort the Gaels pulled goaltender Emma Tennant, to spark something on offence, and it did with Melissa Parton finding the back of the net, however, it was too little too late.

With the 4-2 victory the Ridgebacks have a 1-0 series lead heading back home. The two teams are back in action Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre in Oshawa as the Ridgebacks look to punch their ticket to the Semi-Finals in front of the home crowd. Well, the Gaels look to force a Game 3 at home.
