Guelph Gryphons Advance to McCaw Cup

The Guelph Gryphons are headed to the McCaw Cup after shutting out the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in the Semi-Finals.

The Gryphons opened up the series at home, where they found a commanding 3-0 win over the Ridgebacks. As the Gryphons geared up for the Dog Pound the Ridgebacks looked to keep their playoff run alive with a win at home.

In the first period it was the Gryphons controlling the play, despite outshooting Guelph, the Ridgebacks struggled to maintain possession. Well in the second period the dogs found their fight forcing more back and forth play. With the Ridgebacks on power-play, Kaitlyn McKenna found the opening goal on a rush for the Gryphons, pushing them one-step closer to the OUA Finals. In the third period it was Madeline Min extending the Gryphons lead.

The Ridgebacks continued to push, but their efforts were denied by Gryphons goaltender, Martina Fedel. With the back end shutdown the Gryphons pulled away with a series sweep and shutout, punching their ticket to the McCaw Cup.

Despite the loss not all was lost for the Ridgebacks who put up a historic post-season run, finding their first playoff game win and series win. The Ridgebacks will look to bring the same fight and energy into next season as they look to make another deep run.

The standout for the Gryphons was Kaitlyn McKenna who excelled in transition, picking up pucks in the neutral zone, keeping the Ridgebacks from the offensive zone. Well on the other end the standout was Zoe McGee in net, who kept the game within reach for the Ridgebacks, well facing a strong Gryphons offense.
