The Toronto Sceptres went to Boston hungry, looking to snap a three-game losing streak, but the Fleet were looking to bounce back from their shootout loss against the Ottawa Charge and remain undefeated at home.
The Sceptres came out hard in the first, maybe a little too hard, taking three penalties in the opening frame. The Fleet looked to take advantage on the power play, with Captain Megan Keller leading the charge. Keller was able to find the back of the net to give Boston an early lead, but after review, the goal got called back for goalie interference, to keep the first period scoreless.
The Fleet entered the second period on a power play, well they weren’t able to capitalize on the advantage, Alina Müller was able to find the back of the net just 3 seconds later, recording her 41st point, becoming Boston’s all-time leader.
The Fleet re-opened the scoring with just over three minutes to go, courtesy of Shay Maloney. Not long after the goal, the Sceptres pulled Raygan Kirk to try and spark something on offence, and were successful with Emma Maltais staying with the puck in front of the net, to sneak it past Aerin Frankel. After gaining possession, they pulled Kirk again, but Boston wasn’t letting anything through, taking the game 2-1, to remain undefeated on home ice.
Keller Leads the Ship
Megan Keller has been having an incredible season as Captain; she’s just one goal short of her performance last year, and three points away through their first 12 games of the season. Right now, she’s tied as Boston’s top scorer with Susanna Tapani
Keller has been paired with rookie defender Haley Winn, which seems to be Boston’s perfect match, with the pair now up to a combined 17 points from the blue line. The pair are leading the Fleet in the assist category now with 6 each. The defensive pair are headed to the 2026 Olympics representing the USA.
Sceptres Struggling
The Sceptres' offence has continued to struggle over the last 4 games, scoring only 4 goals. They have been getting shots on net, and the defence has kept the last 3 close, but they haven’t been able to convert those efforts to goals.
This may be a concern for Team Canada as well for the upcoming Olympics, with 6 players stemming from the Sceptres, 4 of which are offensive players. In the Rivalry Series, Canada struggled on both ends of the ice with the US outscoring them 24-7 in the four-game series.
Looking forward, the Sceptres are going to need to clean up their game; they have accumulated 13 penalties in their 4-game loss streak, while their penalty kill has been performing well, they are spending valuable time on the defensive end, cutting their offensive momentum and rhythm.
