Well it was another long night in the PWHL as Game 2 of the Montreal Victoire and Minnesota Frost Series headed to triple overtime.
By far the standouts in the game were Maddie Rooney and Ann-Renée Desbiens who kept their nets locked down, in the longest shutout in the PWHL with 1:55.58, with 5 straight shutout periods. Through regulation the teams were tied for shots, with opportunities on both sides. However, in overtime the Victoire took over while the Frost fought on defence, backstopped by Rooney who ended the game with 51 saves, while Desbiens finished with 38 saves.
In the third overtime it was Captain Clutch, Marie-Philip Poulin putting an end to another marathon game, for the Victoire’s second-ever playoff win. Their first overtime win came in the quadruple overtime last season against the Ottawa Charge where it was Catherine Dubois who called the game.
The Frost now head home with the series tied 1-1, with the energy of the home crowd Minnesota looks to secure another Finals, as they look to defend their title. In playoffs all-time the Frost are 5-1 at home, with their only loss coming in double overtime against Boston in the inaugural season after what was their Walter Cup winning goal got called back.
The path to the Finals in Minnesota is going to be a tough one for both sides, especially if we have another marathon game, as the teams play back-to-back this Thursday and Friday. So buckle up as the teams battle it out to make history.
