PWHL San Jose is locking in their draft picks, signing Tia Chan and Sloane Matthews to three-year deals, joining their first-ever pick Laila Edwards.

Tia Chan joins as the newest Hockey East goalie to sign in the league, in good company alongside Aerin Frankel and Gwyneth Philips, who have continued to be standouts in the PWHL. Chan was named the Women’s College Goalie of the Year this past season as she graduated on top of the program with the most single-season and career wins.

She rounds San Jose’s goalie group with Corrine Schroeder and Abbey Levy already under contract for the season. Schroeder has lots of experience as a starter between her time with the New York Sirens and Seattle Torrent, and will make a great mentor for Chan as she enters the league and as Levy looks to grow her experience. The ranking of these goalies will become clearer through training camp and pre-season, but expect Schroeder to start for the league’s newest franchise.

Then joining a strong and youthful offensive core is Sloane Matthews, reuniting with Maddi Wheeler and Hadley Hartmetz from the Ohio State University. The expansion teams seemed to have learned from last season's difficulties, and have tried to bring in groupings of players that are already familiar with one another and this is the latest edition in this strategy.

Matthews won the NCAA National Championship with Ohio back in 2024. Throughout her time with the Buckeyes she appeared in 161 games recording 104 points. This past season Matthews led the Buckeyes with 7 power-play goals. She brings a strong offensive spark to San Jose as they look to get off to a hot start.
