Katia Pelowich: A Lesson in the Loss

Katia Pelowich has wrapped up an incredible university career, that started with the St. Thomas Tommies in her undergrad, that carried over to the Concordia Stingers as she pursued her master's.

And, well she may not have got the finish she was hoping for with the Stingers, the loss may have brought her more strength as she looks to the pros. After the loss her brother Nick posted a video saying, “my sister just lost the national championship and she opens her phone to her daily quote saying nobody cares just work harder. Five years of university hockey and she never made it to nationals this year she finally did they lost in finals and she’s still smiling not because she lost but because she’s thinking of the four years it took her just to get there,” adding, “I’m her older brother sitting there more upset than she is and she just looked at me and said I’m just happy I made it here, phone said nobody cares, she said I do and that’s enough.

Which serves as an important reminder that as long as you care it’s worth it, the love of the game and the passion behind it is why it’s worth it. You can’t always win but every loss carries a lesson and the biggest one is that the journey and progress made along the way is more important than the final destination.

Over the course of her college career Pelowich recorded 43 goals and 30 assists. She also had the opportunity to represent Team Canada in their silver medal run at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy. And finally capped off her university career with a silver medal at the 2026 U Sports National Championship.

The Stouffville native, now looks towards the PWHL draft where she looks to bring her work ethic and scoring touch to the next level.
