Badgers Take Over Bemidji

Wisconsin Athletics
Wisconsin Athletics

This weekend the Wisconsin Badgers headed to Bemidji to take on the Beavers, in their last matchup before sending their Olympic stars to Italy.

The Badgers took over Bemidji in dominating fashion taking Game One, 10-3, and Game 2, 6-1. But the storyline seemed to stay the same with the majority of the contributions coming from Olympic bound Kirsten Simms, Caroline Harvey, Adéla Šapovalivová, and Laila Edwards. They did find outside hope with Lacey Eden getting 7 points over the weekend. Claire Enright was also able to find a pair of goals for the Badgers, in some much-needed outside contributions.

The Badgers have led the standings but there could be some movement as the NCAA schedule continues through the Olympic Games leaving several top programs without their star players. The Olympics will be a good test for the Badgers team as Harvey, Edwards, and Simms are expected to declare for the PWHL draft this year, for the majority of the season, we have seen this group dominate in the WCHA, but what will the Badgers look like while they’re at the Olympics? Only time will tell but with the top 3 within 5 points of each other, there may be a shakeup on top.

WCHA Weekly Award Winners

With their strong performances this weekend it’s no surprise the Badgers took over the weekly awards with Kirsten Simms winning forward of the week off a 9 point performance, Caroline Harvey winning defender of the week with 8 points and Adéla Šapovalivová winning rookie of the week with 5 points.
